Came and Went: An Exclusion Letter from NYSC

To say I'm disheartened doesn't come close to the feeling of how quickly I became undone from my heightened excitement to ultimate disbelief staring at my laptop screen...

Let's go back to the beginning...

June 2015
After much contemplation on what to do with my life after graduation, whether to pursue a master's degree, get a full-time job or get a life experience. I came to finally settle on the idea of
a life experience, and so the journey began. The decision was made and there was no chance of convincing me otherwise. Bubbled with excitement, I went home to Nigeria to survey the land and see if it could work and on coming back home to the UK  I  couldn't wait to return later in the year. Everyone was on the wagon of my excitement at work and with friends and family. They were all with it, and the universe couldn't have agreed more with me.

Pleasures and Perils: NIGERIA 2015 (Part 2)

End of week one and it was time to head to Abuja, my home away from home for the next two weeks of my stay.
Abuja was an eye-opener to many things. One main thing was taking people'sword for it... DON'T EVER TRY IT.... Be open, very open to the possibility of multiple disappointments, because Nigerians will be Nigerians, changing their minds in the twinkle of an eye( i speak from experience, don't jump me please). I surely learnt that quickly and didn't even dull on a bicycle, just carry go, move on very quickly from it. Another thing that knocked me for six was how easily you could be cheated as a IJGB in any part of Nigeria (Lagos or Abuja, i cant speak for other parts), but as a delta girl, i wouldn't condone such behaviour, due to not being a driver, i literally had to  get a cab everywhere, and you could see in the eyes of the driver's that they had seen "Fresh Meat", but that smile quickly dropped from their faces at my haggling skills of  cab fares with them, so much to the extent that one cabbie went as far as saying to me

Aunty why are you acting like you cant pay it? As you deck up reach. Other people will just enter like that and not argue price.....

I couldn't help but giggle at his brave statement. And of course my response was

Because  they don't know how you people operate...

Pleasures and Perils: NIGERIA 2015 (Part 1)

Before you say anything... Judge not!

Post will be frequent she said.... I hear you say.
Very true,
But sometimes life gets in the way of things and a different route had to be taken.

Being easygoing and plain-spoken  as an individual, making friends and forming new relationships is one thing I've never had an issue with. Thus, most friendships formed in my lifetime  happened with  friends of close friends regardless of the distance, thanks to the help of technology and social media

NO CATFISH!.

Keyboard warriors

A term  which is used to describe a "new breed of idiots which use the internet to mud-sling people who actually have lives and careers"  e.g. calling someone a failure because they are not hugely successfully or bullying someone for the way they dress - Mandy Lion(Vocalist) -WWIII, Wicked Alliance.

Today, as I sat here scrolling through Instagram (the media outlet that leave people wishing other lives) on my phone.  I came across a video of a YouTuber i follow, which briefly shows her dancing and informing her followers to check out her  new  makeup tutorial video on her YouTube page,(basic YouTuber behavior, Right?).
Naturally, the post received a flood of comments and likes, people commenting on how nice and different it is to her normal videos, bigging her up, all of that good stuff, but scrolling further down i saw the last comment which caught my attention simply because it  involved the words
"You don't know her in real life, but you want to tell her what to do..."
I SENSE BEEF! BEEF! BEEF!......

Emotions

Laying here with tears rolling down my eyes and deep in thought
I lay worrying about my future, scared about what it holds and petrified of failing st it
I feel stuck  in this vicious circle, stagnant, and not making progress, no change nor impact.
It makes me question my purpose at times
Why am i living in this world ?

IS IGNORANCE TRULY BLISS?

Watching an  episode of Being Mary Jane, the principal focus  was  a "black" high earning lawyer suffering from mental health issues in the co-operate world and facing neglect in the workplace.

This tickled  my mental neurons and got me looking at things from a different angle.
I agree the 'black' person on average suffers discrimination and second order recognition in society.
Agreed!
